How to Get Promoted in Tech Companies
Yesterday I got invited back to Google to share some insights about entrepreneurship between US and China. After the event, many people were still interested in asking me about promotion. I learned that the “Promotion Demystified” slides I made 3 years ago were still making circulation within Google. While the Google internal link is not accessible by the general public, I believe a lot of points equally apply to other tech companies, which leads to this post.

One Google exec’s insights on building a powerful resume
Early last year, I quit my job at Google to start Leap.ai and pursue my passion for developing others. We use AI to help people chart and navigate their career path. Having hired a few hundred people during my eight years at Google and having reviewed tens of thousands of resumes so far at Leap, I know first-hand how a poorly written resume substantially under-represents a person’s qualifications.

Envelopegate: A High-Tech Perspective on The Oscars
This past Sunday, we all witnessed Envelopegate; watching in awe as the winner for Best Picture was wrongly announced: “La La Land,” instead of “Moonlight.” While what happened was streamed live to millions of people, what caused it to happen was less obvious, and only started to surface in the days afterwards. Code Quality Ladder (part 1)
We've all heard the term "high quality code", but what does it really mean? I've been writing software in a professional setting for a long time: 13+ years and four companies (Microsoft, Google, Sumo Logic, and now Leap.ai) later, I've formed the Code Quality Ladder - a simple framework to determine whether a piece of code is, in fact, "high quality".
